Rostock Germany
[Evangelical Lutheran]
The Nikolaikirche, first consecrated in 1257, is the oldest church in Rostock. A high tower from the early 1400s collapsed during a hurricane in 1703. It was replaced with a smaller tower, the shortest in Rostock. The church was badly damaged by incendiary bombs in 1942. The congregation combined with Petrikirche in 1974. The building was rebuilt and in 1985 ten tower floors were built for church offices. The Gothic hall roof has three residential floors with 13 apartments and three guest rooms. The nave was reopened in 1994 for concert use. Wooden galleries were added in 2000 to increase the nave capacity. It is now a popular concert venue.
