St Nicholas is the patron saint of unmarried women, as well as children and sailors. Young women come to this chapel, requesting the saint's assistance in finding a husband. They pray, "Saint Nicolas, who loves young women when they are nice, do not forget me when you distribute the husbands." Since time immemorial Alsatian bakers have made "Manalas" rolls shaped like men, for St Nicholas Day, 6 December, as a part of this tradition. The chapel would be one of oldest in the Saint-Amarin valley; the last regular mass was in 1742. The chapel was restored in response to villagers' request in 1776 and later rebuilt in 1813. Renovations were carried out again in 1901, 1913, and 1932. It was demolished in 1954 or 1957 when the road was widened. The chapel was rebuilt identically a bit higher up on the edge of the water fall. Dedication was in 1958. A mass is celebrated each year for Saint Christopher, patron saint of travelers, and hikers.
