On a Saturday near 6 December, St Nicholas Day, the good saint comes on horseback to the cross with a statue of St. Nicholas in the village center. He speaks to the people and, accompanied by servants and the music of hunting horns, makes his way to the school. The children each receive a bag with a Nikolaus-cookie and other sweets. People sing songs and recite poems. On Sunday afternoon they gather again for more music, speeches, coofee and cakes—all to honor their patron, St. Nicholas.
