Tower of Sint Nicolaaskerk

Firdgum / Furdgum Netherlands

[Roman Catholic/Reformed]

From the late Middle Ages until 1794 Firdgum had its own church, with an impressive tower. The last service was held in 1794 and the dilapidated Gothic church was then razed. The 14th century tower with a typical Frisan saddle roof, was restored in 1921. A village campaign, Keep Your Spirits Up, in 2000, provided an electric operating system for the clock.
