Peperga Netherlands
[Nederlands Hervormde Kerk (Reformed)]
The late-Gothic tower dates from 1517; the rest of the church was burned down and rebuilt in 1810. Completely restored in 1994, it was sold when the congregation closed in 1999. The church's future is uncertain.Peter Stuyvesant, later director-general of New Netherland, was born while his father served as the first Reformed minister of Sint Nicolaaskerk in Peperga. Petrus (Pieter) Stuyvesant is known for his harsh, autocratic rule; in 1664 he surrendered New Netherland to the English.
