St. Nicholas Tserkva

Khmil Ukraine

[Ukrainian Greek Catholic] / Roman Catholic

The first church here dated from 1589, the next, 1795, burned down in 1904. This one was consecrated in 1907. It was abandoned in 1951 and the furnishings were stolen and destroyed. It was used as a warehouse for the fire department. It has served as a Roman Catholic mass center since 1969 and was renovated during the 1970s. The church is an example of Boyko architecture. The bell tower from the late 1790s was demolished in the 1970s.

There is a grave stone in the cemetery in Cyrillic (old church Slavonic), thought to mark the grave of one of the first Ukrainian Catholic bishops.
