Church of St. Nicholas

Tolleshunt Major, Essex England UK

Church of England (Anglican)

Tolleshunt Major is two miles west of Tolleshunt D'Arcy. The church, southeast of the village, is Norman and Early English styles with a ring of three bells in the brick tower. It was restored in 1888 and seats 120.

Before the Reformation five cattle were bequeathed to provide wax candles for a 5-branched candlestick to burn before the St Nicholas image, now lost, during divine services for ever.

The two St Nicholas churches (Tolleshunt D'Arcy and Tolleshunt Major) form the Benefice of Tolleshunt D'Arcy.
