Voorschoten Netherlands
[Roman Catholic]
By the mid-17th century Catholics had placed a statue of St. Nicholas next to the ruins of the Sint Nicolaaskapel in Voorschoten. This was a place of pilgrimage, as recorded in 1656. The statue may have been similar to one that had been in the former chapel (the chapel dated to 1427 or earlier). St. Nicholas pilgrimages continued until the end of the 1600s or early 1700s.
