Brem-sur-Mer
(Saint-Nicolas-de-Brem), Pays de la Loire France
Roman Catholic
This church is unusual as it is both ruins and an active parish. Built in the 11th century, two additional side naves were added in the 1300s. After the wars of religion nearly destroyed the church, stone from the outer walls was used to restore the central nave. Twelfth century wall paintings have been discovered under whitewash. Services are held in summer and occasionally in fall and winter.
