Childerley, Cambridgeshire England UK
[Roman Catholic]
The church in Great Childerley was rededicated to Saint Nicholas in 1352. Having fallen into decay, the walls were used for a brewhouse and stable in 1639. A later chapel, built in 1600 of red brick lined with ashlar, may have used materials from it or the other medieval church in Great Childerley. The east window is thought to be framed in the former chancel arch. The later chapel was partitioned into a smoking room and cottage in the 1840s. Though dilapidated, it was once again used for services in 1882 and repaired around 1983. The site is on private farmland.
Either that, or the church in Little Childerley was dedicated to St. Nicholas and joined to St. Mary's in Great Childerley in 1489. Great Childerely was depopulated in the early 1600s when the lands were converted into a deer park.
