Church of England (Anglican)
This Saxon church dates from around 950 - 1050 and is one of the oldest in the country. It contains the tallest surviving Saxon arches. Built at the junction of tracks through the forest, it was isolated for hundreds of years. The church is unusually large for its time and the curved east wall is unique. The blocked up "devils door" in the north wall was said to be left open during baptisms as evil spirits were driven out. The church is a Grade I listed building. The 16th or 17th century lych gate is Grade II listed.
