The parish was established in 1224 and remodeled and rebuilt many times. The 15th century church burned in the 17th, being rebuilt in 1664. The tower is from the 1400s. Built for fishermen and salt workers, it was named for their patron saint, Saint Nicolas. The church was closed in 1831 and reopened in 1840, destroyed in 1856 to make way for the present building.
