Originally built in 1173, the church (dedicated to Saint-Maur) was heavily damaged in the One Hundred Year War. After restoration in the 16th century it was dedicated to Saint Nicolas. The church was closed during the French Revolution and used as a saltpetre works. Shortly after re-consecration, author Alexandre Dumas was baptized here on 12 August, 1802.
