Zamosc Poland
Roman Catholic
The Baroque church was built in the 1618-1631. It was originally Greek Orthodox, then Greek Catholic (Uniate), and then Orthodox. The tower was added in 1690-1698, with arrow slits on two levels as it was close to the walls of Zamosc fortress. The church came under the care of Basilians in the 1700s and small rooms were added for the treasury and sacristy on the sides of the chancel. After 1864 the church became Orthodox until 1918 when the served as the Roman Catholic Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka. During World War II it was given over to Greek Catholics again. In 1945 it was taken over by Roman Catholic Redemptorists who restored the original dedication to St. Nicholas.
