Church of st. Nicholas of Myra

Dunsany, Co. Meath Republic of Ireland

Roman Catholic

The church, built in the 1440s, is in grounds of Dunsany Castle, family home to the Plunketts. Disused for many years, the solid walls still stand, though the roof is long gone. The church is still consecrated and contains some of the finest medieval carvings in Ireland. Known locally as The Abbey, the church was one of the locations for the film Braveheart.
