Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

Zyndranova Poland

Polish Orthodox

The village of Zyndranova was home to Lemko, Jewish, and Roma people before the world wars. After World War II forced resettlement moved the people to the Ukraine in the former Soviet Union with the last sent to western Poland in 1947. The church had survived both world wars, but when Lemkos returned from deportation in 1952 the poor condition of the church led them to demolish it, as they were assured they could get a permit to build a new one. However, it was 20 years before they received the permit. Built in 1984, St. Nicholas Church is the first church built since the 1947 evacuation. It is a monument to the 100th anniversary of the baptism of Rus, 988 - 1988. The church was consecrated in 1985. Located on the grounds of the Lemko Skansen, the museum of Lemko culture in Zyndranova, the church has icons saved when area Lemko churches were destroyed. The church serves the local Ukrainian Orthodox parish and belongs to the Protection of Our Lady in Komancza in the Przemyslll-Nowy Sacz diocese of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church..
