Church of England (Anglican)
The 14th century Brighton church was partly rebuilt in the 19th. A medieval sailor or fisherman would see four St Nicholas churches along a 12-mile sea route in Sussex. Starting on the English Channel: St Nicholas, Brighton; 4 miles west, St Nicolas, Portslade; turning north up the River Adur another 4 miles: St Nicholas, Old Shoreham; and 4 miles further along, St Nicholas, Bramber. St Nicholas was the favored patron of medieval seaport churches. Now, across the river from Old Shoreham, there is also the Victorian St Mary & St Nicholas Chapel at Lancing College.
