Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk England UK
Church of England (Anglican)
Originally built in the 1200s and dedicated to All Saints, it isn't known when the church became St Nicholas, as befits a parish in a town dependent upon the sea. Major restoration took place in the 15th century. The church was struck by lightning in 1879 and much destroyed by fire. With only the medieval tower surviving, it was rebuilt very like the damaged church; rededication was in 1883. The church is light, as most windows are plain glass. A gale destroyed the East window in 1810 and replacement colored glass installed. Though not destroyed in the fire, it may have been damaged, as clear glass was later inserted. Extensive restoration took place from 2019 to 2025. The church is a listed Historic England Heritage building.
