Mikolow Poland
Roman Catholic
This wayside shrine is the oldest historic monument in Mikolow. Legend tells that Moldavian cattle traders stopped with their herd for pasture. The cattle got sick. fell ill. The merchants desperately cried out to their patron saint, St. Nicholas, praying for healing of the cattle and promising to build a chapel as a votive offering. The herd was miraculously saved and the Moldovans built a chapel. As such wooden churches so seldom survived, it is sid this chapel was built to commemorate the event.
