Church of St. Nicholas on Bersenevka

Yakimanka (Balchug island), Moscow City (Central) Russia

Russian Orthodox

Located on an island in the center of Moscow, the church is on the Bersenvskaya Embankment across the river from the Kremlin. The church was built in 1656 on Averky Kirillov's private estate, replacing an earlier wooden St. Nicholas Church. Dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the new brick church continues to be known as St. Nicholas.
