St. Nicholas Church (upper)

Serednie Vodiane Ukraine

Byzantine (Greek Catholic)

This village has two wooden St Nicholas churches. The upper one was built in 1428 and the oak logs are from that time. Reconstruction took place in 1600 and again in 1760. The church, similar to medieval Romanesque buildings, has folk art style murals from the 1600s. The four-level iconostasis is from 1761. Restoration took place in 1968. It is one of the oldest wooden churches in Ukraine. The church was protected as an architectural monument in Soviet times and listed on the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine in 2018.
