Helgoland Germany
Evangelical Lutheran
Helgoland is the largest German island in the North Sea. Its original church, built in 1685, was totally destroyed, along with everything else, by Allied bombs in 1945. The island was evacuated and remained uninhabited until 1959, when the government rebuilt homes allowing people to return. The new church was dedicated the same year. Helgoland, now a holiday resort, restricts the use of cars and bicycles.
