Eglise Saint-Nicolas

Bassac, Nouvelle-Aquitaine France

Roman Catholic

The parish church dates from the last half of the 12th and the 15th centuries. The church is part of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Etienne complex. The abbey was disolved at the French Revolution in 1790 and the cloister destroyed in 1820. After the parish church of Saint-Nicolas was destroyed in 1872, the parish moved to the ancient abbey church. It then became known as Saint-Nicolas church. Designation as an historic building in 1880 enabled hurricane damage from 1879 to be repaired.
