Chapelle Saint-Nicolas en Glain

Saint-Nicolas, near Liège, Wallonia Belgium

[Roman Catholic]

The Benedictine priory church of Saint-Nicolas en Glain, built in 1147, was one of five churches in the Liège area dedicated to Saint Nicholas during the Middle Ages. When Liège was annexed to France the chapel became an annex to the parish church of Saint-Giles. It was sold in 1807 and used as a barn. The building was razed in 1906. Only one of the five original churches remains today. The town of Saint-Nicolas was named for the chapel.
