Orthodox Church in America
In 1895 the first Orthodox services in Portland were held in a chapel dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity. From this small congregation of Aleut Creoles, Serbs, Arabs, and Russians, ten Orthodox parishes in Metropolitan Portland have been established. Over time the original chapel, which never had a permanent priest, fell into disrepair. The fragmented community was renewed in 1928, as a new church home was consecrated under the patronage of St Nicholas the Wonderworker. The present church, constructed during the time of the centennial of the first Divine Liturgy, was consecrated in 1996.
