Căpriana Monastery
Moldova

Eastern Orthodox

The church is part of the oldest monastery in Moldova, founded in 1429. There are three churches in the monastery: the stone summer church, Church of the Dormition, the oldest extant church in Moldova; the winter church of St. George, built in the 1900s; and the St. Nicolae church from the 1800s. Closed following World War II, the church was used to store agricultural chemicals. It was reopened in 1989 and major renovations have taken place.
