Nikolaikirche

Chemnitz Germany

[Evangelical Lutheran]

The first mention of a Nikolaikirche on the site was in 1331. As it was part of a monastery, it was older than the town itself. It was damaged by fire several times, with the last rebuilding in the late 1880s. When bombs destroyed the church and parsonage in 1945, the minister's family also perished. The steel bells were saved in 1947 and are now in Thum. After the tower was dismantled, nothing of Nikolaikirche remainied. The parish joined with daughter church St. Thomas and a hotel now occupies the site.
