Legend tells that the land now forming the Cape of Kaliakra kept stretching out under Saint Nicholas feet as he ran towards the sea to escape Turkish pursuers. In the legend he was caught and killed. The chapel at the very tip of the cape marks the symbolic grave of the patron saint of sailors. The chapel was restored in 1993. Kaliakra means beautiful cape.
