Marianna, Pennsylvania USA
Old Believers Russian Orthodox
In 1906 a large group of Old Believers came from Russia to work in the prosperous Marianna coal mine. The coal company donated yellow bricks to build the church in 1910. The entier company town was built out of these bricks. The mine closed in 1988 and only a few parishioners are left. Daughters of a former priest conduct weekly services and sacraments are offered only during the Easter season when a priest from Erie or Detroit comes. St. Nicholas is one of just four Russian Old Believer churches in the United States.
