St. Nicholas Chapel

Frenchtown / Carey, Ohio USA

[Roman Catholic]

St. Nicholas was established in 1856 by Luxembourgers, who differed politically and socially from the Germans who founded nearby St. Boniface. To convince the bishop of the need for another parish, he was taken on a long confusing ride through Berwick and McCutchenville, ending up just two miles from the starting point. Impressed by the distance and difficulty in getting there, the new parish was approved. The complex had the church, rectory and school.

St. Nicholas, now a chapel, became part of the new All Saints Parish, formerly St. Boniface, New Riegel, along with the former St. Peter, Alvada, in 2005. Weekly services continued at St. Nicholas. It was demolished in 2023. The three altars were installed in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, in 2024.
