Legend tells of a beekeeper who had an icon of St. Nicholas on a maple tree. He took it home and it reappeared the next morning back on the tree. This repeated several times before the man realized the Saint was telling him to build a bell tower on the site. The cathedral church, with a large dome, was built in the 1750s. The icon of Saint Nicholas was hung above the Royal Doors by two ribbons. There were many miracles from the miraculous icon. The monastery was closed in 1922 and the church dismantled in the 1930s. The monastery began to be revived in 2004 as a convent for women.
