The parish was formed in 1912 to serve the needs of people unable to go clear across town to worship at the only Byzantine Catholic church in the area, St Mary's. The street car fare was prohibitive for whole families. A Swedish church was purchased and enlarged in 1914. This was outgrown by 1918. The new church, dedicated in 1919, was patterned after the Cathedral Church in Uzhorod, Czechoslovakia. The copper domes were orginally gold-leaf. The church is an area landmark.
