The church, built and painted in 1313, is "of the hospital." It was built in the old part of the city with dormitories that served as quarantine stations for city visitors during the plague. After the Turks came they were turned into hospitals, hence the name "Bolnicki." The church is just opposite St. Mary's Hospital (Sv. Bogorodica Bolnicka). In the 1400s a chapel was added on the south side. The church is an older church inside a newer one. The church courtyard contains remains of the city walls.
