wSt. Nicholas Old Orthodox Church

The Old Believers separated from the Russian Orthodox Church in the 1660s when liturgical changes were introduced, bringing the Russian Church liturgy closer to Greek liturgical practice. The Old Believers held to earlier traditional Russian Orthodox ways, suffering persecution in Russia until 1905. Woodburn is home to a sizeable number of Old Believers—one-fourth to one-third of Woodburn's residents.
