Ring / An Rinn, Co. Waterford Republic of Ireland
[Roman Catholic]
The ruined church sits in a cemetery on the main road into An Rinn. Covered with ivy, the chancel arch has a chiselled mortise (rest) for a rood beam. Rood beams were unusual in Irish rural churches and it is believed to be the only one in Ireland. The church replaced an earlier Nicholas church, having some remains under the present roadway. One Sunday its gallery collapsed and twelve men held it up, allowing everyone to come down. The remains of St Nicholas Holy Well are nearly hidden on private property.
