Church of St Nicholas the Miracleworker Schepy

The church was built in 1686, replacing an earlier wooden one from around 1660. The name, Schepy, comes from the area tht produced Sovereign woodburning for palace buildings. It was enlarged in 1773 and the bell tower added in 1813. The church had a baroque 17th century iconostas and icons from the 17th to the 19th centuries. After closure in 1934 the church was plundered, the bell tower destroyed and domes damaged. A factory occupied the premises until the church was restored in 1994.
