Australind, Western Australia Australia
Anglican Church of Australia
Built in 1844 as a workman's cottage, St Nicholas church is said to be the smallest church in Western Australia—only 3.6 x 8.2 meters. In 1848 it began to be used as a church and in 1915 the Church of England bought it. The name "Australind" comes from "Australia" and "India"—the settlement was to raise horses for the Indian Army. This project failed and the church is one of the few remnants from the original settlement. On the festival of St Nicholas (6th December) 1993, the church became an independent parish. It is always open and services are still held. The parish has built a new, larger building. This one is listed on the register of the National Estate.
