Chiesa di San Nicola

Soleto, Apulia Italy

Roman Catholic

The church, located in one of nine Greek-speaking villages, was built in 1655. A monastery of Poor Clares was attached—they worshiped in a choir separated by a wrought iron gate until their transfer elsewhere in 2002. A 1726 painting of San Nicola in the presbytery shows four of his miracles: freeing Basilios from slavery, the dowry story, healing a horse, and the rescue of three children from the salting tub.
