Church of St-Nicholas-the-Wet—Hram sv Nikolaia Mokrog

Yaroslavl, Yaroslavl Oblast Russia

Russian Orthodox

The summer church was built from 1665-72; the frescos finished in 1673 by Guriy Nititin, the best 17th century iconographer. The church became known as the "Wet" because of St. Nicholas' miracles on water and the church's proximity to the river. Glazed tiles ornament the building, though many have not survived. The churches was closed in 1929 and used as storehouses. They were returned to the church and reopened in 1992. The iconostasis did not survive.
