[Byzantine Catholic (Ruthenian)]
Emigrants from the Austro-Hungarian Empire first settled the southern shores of Lake Erie around 1885. They longed to have their own Eastern Rite Liturgy and it was first established as St. Nicholas Magyar Greek Catholic Church in 1906. The church has nearly always struggled, not having a resident priest, and for large periods of time the Divine Liturgy has been celebrated irregularly. The priest had been traveling 200 miles each week to celebrate Divine Liturgy regularly. The church is now closed.
