The Ukrainian St. Nicholas Brotherhood formed in 1894 built a small wooden church in Lovejoy. The outgrown church was replaced with this one, dedicated in 1920. It was built with a flat roof and no domes as money was scarce following the devastating 1918 flu pandemic and the Great Depression. The church was remodeled, adding domes, in 1994, the 100th anniversary of the parish founding and the 75th anniversary of laying the church's cornerstone.
