The oldest part of the church, built around AD 1000, was dedicated to St. Nicholas. The mid-13th century addition was dedicated to St. Panteleimon. The church is noted for the frescos painted in 1259. There are 89 scenes with 240 human figures. 18 scenes from the life of Nicholas are in the narthex. The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
