Orthodox Church in America
On December 19, 1904 (St Nicholas Day on the old calendar), the newly founded church was consecrated and named in honor of St Nicholas of Myra. The church suffered cave-ins of mine subsidence twice, in 1932 and 1955. Pews were added in the early 1930s. The interior was remodeled with a new iconostas and other furnishings; relics of St Nicholas were installed in the new altar at the dedication. Aluminum siding was put on in 1968 and three new cupolas, symbolic of the Holy Trinity, were added in 1972. In 1992 new siding was put on and the entrance covered. The first full English Liturgy was sung in 1969.
