This is the only church from the 6th century still standing in Cappadocia. It is believed to have been built on the order of Byzantine Emperor Justinian. For many years is was a pilgrimage destination and a stop along the way to Jerusalem. It is called the "Red Church" because of the color of the stones. It is listed by the World Monuments Observatory of 2008.
