Russian Orthodox
The St. Nicholas Cathedral forms the entire diocesan complex. A wooden St. Nicholas of Borovsk Church was built before 1564 and replaced by stone by 1800. This simple church was replaced in 1885. Shut down in 1930, it reopened in 1946 as one of only two functioning churches in Kazan and became a cathedral. The Lower Church of St. Nicholas has miracle-working copies of icons, including the Mother of God of Kazan and St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Mira and Lycia Kuyukovskaya.
