South Brisbane, Queensland Australia
Serbian Orthodox
St Nicholas was the first Serbian Orthodox Church in Queensland, Australia. The building, blessed in 1959, is listed as national heritage. Schism in the Serbian Orthodox Church abroad divided the Brisbane community as well. The building, despite a long period of dispute and legal action, remained with the new Free Serbian Church. The schism was healed in 1992 with the creation of two parallel dioceses in Australia and New Zealand under one bishop.
