The east wall of the north transept had, perhaps until 1869-94, altars of St. Nicholas, St. Giles, St. Gregory, and St. Benedict in the bays of arcading. The present chapel is in memory of the men of the Durham Light Infantry who died in World War I. The Gregory Chapel was formerly dedicated to St. Benedict.
