St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral

Dushanbe Tajikistan

Russian Orthodox

The church was built in 1943, in the midst of World War II when Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin eased restrictions on the Russian Orthodox Church. In disrepair by 2012, the church is holding its own. Between 1989 and 2010 the Russian population in Tajikistan went from 8% to one half of one percent. The Orthodox community in Tajikistan is the smallest in Central Asia, with just 6 churches and 500 congregants.
