Chapelle Saint-Nicolas

Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur France

[Roman Catholic]

When the St Bénezet bridge, built between 1177 and 1185, was washed out in the mid-1600s, priests refused to hold services in the original bridge chapel. During the 1700s a new chapel was built at the foot of the bridge on the Avignon side. Only ruins remain today.
