The monastery, founded in 1380, was dedicated to St Nicholas of Myra. It was built on the spot where Prince Dmitry Ivanovich saw a vision of St. Nicholas before his victory over the Tartars on the River Don. In 1920 it was partially destroyed and converted into a children's labor colony. Later it was used as a labor camp. The monastery reopened in 1991. The seminary was established in 1998 and is one of the largest in Russia.More information
